A Chicago firefighter has now lost his entire family following a house fire last week.
Firefighter Walter Stewart’s two daughters, Emery, 2, and Autumn, 7, died Friday evening hours after his wife, Summer, died. His son, Ezra, 7, died Wednesday.
Family and friends described Ezra as a happy little boy who liked to play with toy cars, and Autumn as the family’s little lady who was very creative. She loved to sing, interact with people and was very outgoing, neighbors told WGN.
“It’s very sad. We’ve never had something like this happen before and it just caught us off guard … It’s really sad,” Perla Martinez, a neighbor said. “And we’re always here for support.”
Summer’s memory will live on as she was an organ donor.
Stewart was on duty at a Chicago fire station when he heard his address on the radio. A chief drove him to the house. He helped perform CPR on his wife in the front yard, CFD Spokesman Larry Langford said.
Fellow firefighters have rallied around him since the tragedy.
