EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — Firefighters from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are responding to a massive fire sparked by a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, Friday night.
Multiple train cars are on fire, although it is not yet known what the train was carrying at the time of the derailment. Hazmat crews are on the scene to determine potential toxins, WFMJ reported.
East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway has directed anyone within a mile of the incident to evacuate immediately. People outside of the mile radius are urged to stay at home and stay off the roads while the fire is cleared.
No injuries or fatalities have been confirmed at this time.
Initial EPA testing has deemed air quality in the area to be safe.
