A two-alarm fire Saturday afternoon in Southeast Washington destroyed a barn at 2722 MLK Avenue. The abandoned structure was on the grounds of historic St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, a psychiatric facility that dates back to 1855. Command originally described the building as a warehouse.

The fire was dispatched at 3:57 p.m. Below is STATter911 video shot from Virginia showing the minute by minute progress of the fire beginning two minutes after dispatch (see time stamps in upper right corner). Upon arrival the incident commander called for defensive operations, dual lines, master streams and a collapse zone. DC’s 911 center is at 2720 MLK Avenue SE next door to the fire building.
