A rescue effort is underway Sunday night after a small plane is hanging about 100 feet in power lines in Montgomery Village.
Rescue from Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services and other agencies are at the scene, working with the utility company carry out a lengthy rescue after power was cut to tens of thousands of residents.
Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein told WTOP that firefighters are taking “measured and risk balanced steps” to rescue the passengers on the plane who are reportedly uninjured.
Goldstein said the power company was working to ground the power in the lines before firefighters plan to secure the aircraft before making contact with the two people who are on board. Rescuers have been contacting them on their cell phones.
Police said the single-engine Mooney M20J is occupied by a man and woman.
Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service told CBS News that the incident, which began around 5:30 p.m., is a “very precarious situation.”
The incident happened near Montgomery County Airport in Gaithersburg.
