Eight people were found dead in a house fire in Broken Arrow Thursday afternoon, and the incident is being handled as a homicide.
Details were sketchy, but police confirmed that eight bodies were found.
“It’s a very complex scene with lots of moving parts and the condition of the house due to the fire,” Ethan Hutchins, a spokesman for the Broken Arrow Police Department, said at a press conference near the scene.
However, he said preliminary investigation by officers led them to commence a homicide investigation. He added that he was not at liberty to provide many details.
He refused to disclose details of the victims or whether all lived in the home. Hutchins wouldn’t comment if there were any survivors.
The Broken Arrow Fire Department responded to the house near Houston Street and Elm Place about 4:05 p.m. The fire marshal’s office and ATF agents are assisting with the investigation, he said.
Hutchins would not verify a report that neighbors heard shots about an hour before the fire.
He said more details on the incident will be released later.
