HOOD COUNTY, Texas — Three Hood County firefighters were injured Wednesday while fighting a wildfire north of Tolar, according to a news release from the Hood County Office of Emergency Management.

The blaze, dubbed the Colony Fire, grew Wednesday evening to at least 300 acres. According to the county, one firefighter suffered burns on 10% of his body, including on his arms and face. He was flown to Parkland Hospital Burn Unit in Dallas and is in unknown condition.

Two other firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion and are recovering.

The fire started Wednesday and quickly grew in thick oak and juniper bush, according to the release. The Texas A&M Forest Service has been called in to assist the fire, which has 0% containment.

No evacuation orders exist, but Colony Road is closed from Tolar Highway to the railroad tracks.

Texas State Troopers have created roadblocks at the closures and traffic is being stopped because of the narrow road and to ensure the safety of first responders and the public, according to the release.

Hood County is under a burn ban.
