Manslaughter among charges for two arrested

SPRING VALLEY – Authorities have arrested four men, including two village building inspectors, in the fatal fire at Evergreen Court Home for Adults in which volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd and a facility resident died.

Arrest warrants were issued for two others, including the adult home’s director, Rockland District Attorney Thomas Walsh said in announcing the arrests during a news conference Tuesday at his New City office.

Nathaniel Sommer and his son, Aaron Sommer, both of Rockland, were charged with the same crimes, including two counts of manslaughter in the second degree, for their alleged actions were determined to cause the fire.

John Tomlin, Evergreen Court spokesperson, said that Nathaniel Sommers, a rabbi, and his son, “were not employees of Evergreen. They were independent contractors hired to do the kosherizing” for Passover.
